We’re Changing Our Name

Introducing Ahu Community Trust

At the heart of Ahu is a commitment to helping communities thrive. Through funding, support, partnership and stewardship, Ahu Community Trust works alongside not-for-profit organisations and local initiatives to help create opportunities, strengthen connections and overcome barriers.

Why we’re making this change

The change to Ahu Community Trust is more than a visual refresh or a new name. It is part of a wider effort to better reflect who we are today, the role we play in Mid and South Canterbury, and the direction we are heading in.

The previous name, The Community Trust of Mid and South Canterbury, is long and difficult to use in everyday conversation, and does not clearly express the vision and purpose behind our work.

The new identity gives us a clearer, more human and community-facing way to express that role. It also aligns more closely with our updated vision and strategy, helping people better understand what we stand for and how we aim to support communities into the future.

Our vision remains the same

Flourishing and sustainable communities, with opportunities created and barriers overcome.

What Ahu means

Our Trustees

The name Ahu reflects ideas of tending, nurturing and guiding in a shared direction. It speaks to a Trust that helps communities grow, connect and take shape over time, not just through one-off moments alone, but through ongoing support, care and encouragement.

That meaning connects closely to our role across Mid and South Canterbury. Ahu Community Trust helps create the conditions for communities to flourish, supporting people, projects and places as they grow stronger together.

How this is expressed visually

The visual identity builds on this meaning through a logo that suggests growth, connection and a shared whole.

  • Four leaf forms represent the four districts
  • Each leaf is distinct, reflecting communities that are independent yet connected
  • Together they form one unified mark
  • The colours draw subtle connections back to the region and its districts

What is Changing

Alongside the new name, Ahu Community Trust, there will also be a new logo, visual identity, website and updated communications. Together, these changes create a clearer and more human way of expressing our role, vision and connection to Mid and South Canterbury.

This refresh is not only visual. It also reflects an updated strategic direction and a clearer way of working with communities. This includes:

Community Grants

Flexible grant pathways for everyday community needs, from smaller practical requests through to larger community-focused initiatives.

Strategic Partnerships

Intentional funding partnerships focused on priority areas where deeper support, collaboration and impact can make a bigger difference.

Special Funding Pathways

Funding pathways for selected priorities, special projects and community needs that sit outside the main grant streams.

Support Beyond Funding

Support may also include guidance, connection, training and other resources that help organisations and communities build confidence and capability over time.

What is staying the same

While the name and visual identity are changing, our commitment to Mid and South Canterbury remains the same. As Ahu Community Trust, we will continue supporting communities across the region, guided by the same vision of flourishing and sustainable communities.

Our purpose, values and community focus remain central. Relationships with community groups, partners and stakeholders will continue, and the people, place and care behind this work remain very much the same.

The main ways of connecting with us, through staff, trustees and key contact points, will continue to feel familiar, even as our name, identity and strategy are refreshed.

These changes are intended to help us communicate more clearly, act more intentionally, and support communities in ways that are both practical and impactful.
